Whether you walk to lose weight or find inner peace, ride a bike to exercise or commute, or hike to connect with friends and nature's wonders, Delaware Greenways' Family Trail Days, Spring tune-up Rides and Commuter Workshop can get you started.
Delaware Greenways invites families to participate in a monthly series of guided walks designed to explore the rich natural and cultural heritage of northern New Castle County through use of the Northern Delaware Greenway Trail; a nine mile ribbon of green stretching from the Delaware to the Brandywine River.
The walks provide opportunities for families to have fun and be active together, explore nature and highlight close-to-home recreational opportunities as part of an active and healthy lifestyle. The theme for 2011 Walks is "All trails Lead to Wilmington".

Northern Delaware Greenway Spring Tune-up Rides

A series of rides are being offered to get people comfortable and familiar with riding the Northern Delaware Greenway Trail. Riders will meet at the Blue Ball Barn in Alapocas Run State Park, 1914 W. Park Drive, Wilmington DE 19803, at 6:00 p.m. on consecutive Wednesday evenings in April and May.
Please be ready to ride; mountain, hybrid or road bikes are appropriate since the route is paved. Helmets are mandatory. The rides vary in length, starting at 5 miles on week 1, and progressing to 15 miles by week 6. Shorter mileage rides are also available. An optional orientation to trail riding will be offered at 5:30 p.m. for those that are relatively new to riding and to answer any questions. Ride leader: John McCormick, 302-668-8749. Hagley's Wednesday Bike and Hike
July 11, 18, 25, August 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29, 20075 to 8 p.m.
Hagley's Wednesday Bike and Hike evenings are offered in both July and August this Summer. These evenings are perfect for family fun, a romantic picnic and stroll, or an invigorating workout. Bike and Hike will be held every Wednesday evening in July and August, weather permitting, from 5 to 8 p.m. Cost is $2 per person, free for members. More info.
Explore Bicycle Commuting
Join a three hour League of American Bicyclists (LAB) course that provides classroom instruction and a night ride. Program instructors are John & Cecilia McCormick and Paul Hess (of White Clay Bicycle Club and
League Cycling Instructors) who provide informative presentations and discussions on topics including route selection, bicycle safety, clothing, how to carry gear, and other bicycle commuting issues.
This program takes place at the Bellevue Corporate Center, Bldg. 200, Ameriprise Financial Suite 250 on Thursday, July 14, 2011, at 6:00 - 9:00 PM. There will be a 5:30 PM brown-bag dinner and get acquainted session before the training. Come prepared with your helmet, bike, headlight ("bungeed" flashlight okay) and rear reflector or light.
